Lena Belle Henderson

Lena Belle Speer Henderson, age 88 of Double Springs, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham.

She was born Houston, Alabama to James Speer and Dora Burdick Speer. Lena was a fantastic cook. She enjoyed gardening and sewing and made homemade clothes for her family. For many years, Lena and her sisters and later her children traveled all over and sang for hundreds of funerals and special church services.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 3, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Double Springs, where the service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Brother Bill Frank Wilson and Pastor Benny Knight will officiate.

Lena is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Parnell Henderson; children, Boyd (Regina) Henderson, Bonnie (Benny) Knight, Bradley (Jennifer) Henderson, and Bentley (Debbie) Henderson; grandchildren, Shaunda (Jamie) Pounders, Maile (Lionel) Reese, Malia (Joel) Henson, Jonathan (Anieca) Henderson, Jamie Knight, Courtney (Jessie) Boyd, Damara Henderson, Riley Henderson, Stephanie Henderson, and Tucker (Erin) Henderson; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Sam Speer and Dora Lovenia Burdick Speer; brothers, Jim Speer, Burdick Speer, and Jack Speer; and sisters, Tommie Rowe, Cee Carter, and Georgia Belle Speer.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Henderson, Tucker Henderson, Riley Henderson, Reggie Henson, Nicholas Pounders, and Matthew Riddle. Honorary pallbearer, Brent Henson.
