Shirley Mae Vandiver, 85, of Double Springs entered into rest on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 18, 1934. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church in Okeechobee, Florida for approximately 18 years and served as Sunday School teacher, was involved in Women’s Ministry, sang in the choir, and she and her husband were missionaries to the Seminole Indians on the reservation. Upon moving to Double Springs, Alabama, she was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and New Beginnings in Christ in Double Springs, where she was a deacon’s wife. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, trips to the beach, feeding and watching birds and singing hymns, but her favorite was reading her Bible and worshipping the Lord. She loved joking around with people and making them happy. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where the service will begin at 2 p.m. Brother Ed Jordan will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Double Springs. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Judy (Randy) Barton, Cindy (Jon) Burns and Sharron (Mark) Posey; sister, Eva Jo Bell; eight grandchildren, Jeramy, Stephanie, Brian, Jonathon, Nic, Holly, Chelsea and Joshua; six great grandchildren, Kyle, Hailey, Peighton, Eli, Alanna and Wyatt; two great great grandchildren, Kinsley and Michael and a host of special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mattie McCullar; her husband, W.D. Vandiver; son, Ricky Vandiver; brothers, Allen, Billy, Lowell and Morris McCullar and sisters, Elouise McElduff, Juanita Jones and Earlene Humphries.
