Shirley Ann Gilliland, age 78, of Haleyville, passed away February 5, 2020 at Haleyville Healthcare, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 2, 1941 in Fayette, Alabama. Shirley began her career as a clerk for District Judge Robert Burleson. She worked for Haleyville City Schools for 5 years before returning to the judicial system where she served as Magistrate for Judge Burleson, Judge Ann Richardson and finally Judge Sam Masdon and also served as an election official. She retired October 1, 2001. Shirley loved sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening, long distance yard sales and doting on her beloved grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7, 2019 from 12pm-2pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where services will be held at 2pm. Reverend Billy Gilliland will officiate. Burial will follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville, Alabama. Shirley is survived by her husband of 54 years, Larry Gilliland; two children, Christi (Brandon) Norris and Jenny (Mike) Bailey; grandchildren, Adam (Emily) Edwards, Morgan Long, Drew Norris, Devin Norris, and Kaci (Adam) Loden; great grandchild due in March, Tucker Lee Edwards. She was preceded in death by her father, Sherman Tucker; mother, Ila Johnson; stepfather, Andrew Johnson; brother, Rudolph Tucker; stepsister and brother-in-law, Betty and Mitchell Palmer; stepbrother, Frank Johnson; niece, Michelle Palmer and nephew, Randy Tucker.
