Joe Samuel Morrow

Joe Samuel Morrow, 86 of Double Springs, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 14, 1937, in Cordova, Alabama.

Coach Morrow was a graduate of Cordova High School and was a scholarship recipient at the then Florence State University (Now UNA), where he played football (where he won All Conference - Gulf State Conference and was an outstanding running-back). He also excelled in basketball, baseball, and track and field at Cordova High School, and he was an Allstate football and track star. He was a charter member of the Double Springs Jaycees, the PTA, Band Boosters, and Alabama Education Association (AEA), President of the Winston County Education Retirees, and Department of Human Resources (DHR). Coach Morrow was a teacher/coach (football, track and field, volleyball, basketball, softball, and many other local athletic activities) for 38 years and was a member/commander of the Army National Guard & Reserve for nearly 40 years with the rank of Bird Colonel, as he was a lifetime member of the American Legion and an Honorary Member of the Double Springs Homemakers Club. Joe Morrow was a Christian all his life, with both of his grandfathers being preachers, and at his death he attended Double Springs First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Double Springs First Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Double Springs First Baptist church, where Coach Morrow will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Double Springs Memorial Gardens. Brother Philip Twilley and Brother J.D. Snoddy will officiate.

Coach Morrow is survived by his wife, Linda (63 ½ years of marriage); daughter, Connie Jo Morrow Carraway; son, Robert Thomas Morrow II; grandsons, Connor M. Carraway, Thomas J. Morrow, and Samuel C. Morrow; sister, Maxine; brother, Jerry; other survivors, Philip Stover and Jimmy Busbee, Deanna Cook, Leanne Dawkins, Phillina Perry, Lynne Higginbotham, Mandy Cordell, and Jainia Durham; and many other survivors, relatives, friends, players, and students, including former student, special care physician, Dr. Steve Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Thomas and Mrytle Philips Morrow; and sister, Marceline M. Billings.
