James Autry Legg

It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of James Autry Legg on December 15, 2020 at his residence. James Autry Legg was a dearly loved father, grandfather, great grandfather; son, uncle, nephew, and he will be greatly missed by his loving family and close friends. A funeral service will be held at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 1:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at Ashbank Cemetery in Nauvoo. Brother Hollis Boyd and Brother Robert “Reed” Plunkett will officiate. Born March 27, 1940 in Itawamba County, Mississippi, he was the son of J.R. (Doc) Legg and Bertha Lou (Nix) Legg. He married Iva Lee (Harris) Legg on June 26, 1958 in Itawamba County, Mississippi, and she survives. Other survivors include son, Dwight Legg of Hamilton, AL; Cynthia Yvonne (Legg) Knight (husband Larry) of Redmond, OR; 2 grandchildren, Bradley Curtis and Lukas Bailey; one great grandchild, Boyd Autry Curtis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.R. (Doc) and Bertha Lou Legg; one sister, Mauveline Hayes; and 2 brothers, Wendell Legg and William Legg. James had lived in this area his entire life. He was retired and spent his time enjoying nature walking and exploring his property. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville. Burial will be in Ashbank Cemetery in Nauvoo, Alabama.
