Howard Lewis Smith

Howard Lewis “Pop” Smith, age 95, of Double Springs, formerly of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

Howard was born on July 19, 1928 in Virginia to Robert and Annie Smith.

A service will be held Sunday, March 17, 2024 in the care of Bassett Funeral Home in Bassett, Virginia. Burial will be at Mt. Hermon Church Cemetery of Bassett. A memorial service will be held in Double Springs at a later date.

Howard is survived by his children, Sabrena (Michael) Oldakowski and Denny (Renee) Leland Smith; grandchildren, James (Brittany) Luke Swain, Johnathan (Annika) Howard Swain, Annakiah Ciera Smith, Jason (Wendie) David Holt, and Jedidiah (Marissa) Leland Smith; great grandchildren, Kinley Rose Swain, Cameron Maddox Swain, Sadie Kay Smith, Jagger Leland Smith, Hemi Gene Smith, Hayden Thomas Holt, Hattie Mae Holt, Ruby Ellen Holt, and Scarlet Rose Holt; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ruth Via Smith; parents, Annie Mae Martin Smith and Robert Lee Smith; sisters, Nellie M. Smith, Myrtle Irene Pratt, Lillie Belle Smith, Pauline Bolijack, and Opal Price; and brothers, Russell Smith and Robert Duke Smith.
