Gary Roy Conklin

Gary Roy Conklin, 68 of Arley, entered into rest on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at UAB Palliative Care in Birmingham. Gary was born on August 1, 1953 in Upstate New York. He married his sweetheart, Pamela in 1972 prior to their joining the United States Air Force together, where he proudly served until his retirement in 2013. Because of Gary’s love of fishing, upon their retirement, they moved to Smith Lake. Gary suffered from a rare blood cancer, known as Angiosarcoma. Most people with this type cancer only survive 3-4 years, but Gary bravely fought for ten years. Gary was loved and will be missed by many. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Gary is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pamela Conklin; mother, Alwynne Conklin; daughter, Amanda Lyn Conklin; son, Matthew Alan Conklin; grandchildren, Claire and Ryan; siblings, Suzanne, Neena, Brian and Scott; fur baby, Lucy; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Conklin.
