Betty Cobb Porter

Betty Cobb Porter, age 84, of Addison, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 in Cullman, Alabama. She was born on July 7, 1939 in Addison, to Noah and Flora Cobb.

 

Betty was a longtime and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Addison. Her favorite hobby was traveling. She was able to travel to many states with her friends; as well as take her children and grandchildren abroad. She enjoyed playing cards and tennis with her family and friends.

 

Betty was a devoted educator for 39 years, she taught at Jones Chapel School, Addison High School, Winston County High School, and the Winston County Area Vocational Center. She served as a teacher, career tech director and principal and she retired as superintendent of the Winston County Education System.

 

The family would like to thank her care takers that allowed her to stay home for many years. We would also like to thank Westminister Assisted Living and Southern Care Hospice for comfort and care in her final years.

 

Visitation for Betty will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Addison, where services will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Mrs. Porter will lie in state from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Bishop Rodney Ridgeway, Brother Samuel Tucker, Brother Kenny Sudduth, Betsey Holland and Brother Shawn Blanton will officiate the services. Burial will be in Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville.

 

Pallbearers will include, Darrell Cleghorn, Jeff Boyd, Rick White, Teddy Dollar, Dru Jackson, Chris Cleghorn, Irvin Holland, Jobe Wakefield, Tommy Bartlett, and Steton Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will include, Dan Cobb, Gary Wakefield, Mike Cobb, Bill Tittle, Terry Cobb, and Johnny Paul Blanton.

 

Betty is survived by her daughter, Cyndy Mahugh Porter Bartlett and husband Billy Joe; son, Shandy Hugh Porter and wife Brittney; four grandchildren, who called her Mothergrand, Betsey Joe Holland and her husband Irvin, Tommy Joe Bartlett, Alison and Jon Carson Porter; one great-grandchild, Essie Joe Holland; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Flora Cobb; loving husband, Mahugh Porter; three brothers, Raymond (Lib) Cobb; Doyl (Doise) Cobb, and Marvin Cobb; three sisters, Obera (Otha) Holt; Jean (Buck) Wakefield, and Nola (Max) Cleghorn.
