Audrey Behel Posey

Audrey Behel Posey, 78 of Double Springs, went home to the Lord on March 19, 2018 surrounded by her family.

Audrey was born on April 9, 1939 in Florence, Alabama to Harry and Nellie Behel. She was a member of Double Springs Church of Christ for 57 years where she served in many ways including being an Elders wife, Sunday School teacher, bus ministry, Ladies Group leader, and Ladies Bible Class teacher. Audrey graduated from Rogers high School in 1957 where she was the Alabama Girls State Representative in 1956. She went on to graduate from the University of North Alabama in 1960 where she earned the honor of being the Outstanding Student of Business Education at UNA in 1960, UNA May Queen in 1960, and UNA Hall of Fame for 1959-1960. Mrs. Posey began teaching Business Education at Lynn High School and then became the Custodian of Funds for the Winston County School System for 20 years before becoming the accountant for American Fiberglass for 25 years. Audrey was a member of the Double Springs Study Club and the Double Springs PTA, and she was named the 2011 Louise Wilson Outstanding Clubwoman and 2009 Double Springs Study Club Woman of Distinction. She truly enjoyed her community club service. Marcus and Lucas were the lights of her life. Then Elizabeth became her very special grand daughter in love.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm at Double Springs Church of Christ where the service will be held on Thursday at 2:00pm. Justin Guin and Vance Hutton will officiate. Burial will be in Double Springs Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Audrey is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim Posey; son, Chris Posey and his wife Marcia; brother, Eddie Behel and his wife Jane; sisters, Margelun Parker, Cathy Owen and her husband Jerry, and sisters in love, Glennis Posey and Carolyn Whitten; she was Lan-Lan to her grandchildren Marcus Posey, and his wife Elizabeth, and Lucas Posey; and a great grandson expected in May, James Edward Posey; and her special hair magician, Carolyn Kooyer.

She was preceded in death by parents, Harry and Nellie Behel; sister, Deborah Chason; and brothers-in-law; Donald Posey, Chi Parker and Charles Whitten.

The family has been blessed beyond words by their church family and the community of Double Springs. The entire family wants to thank New Beacon Hospice for their love and care; the ladies who loved and helped Audrey were our angels on earth; Lynn Kershaw, Rhonda Chambless, Michelle Rice, Mary Veal, Deborah Bolding, Jamie Taylor, Ola Faye Gustafson and Susan Wise.
